Meher Baba’s friends and relatives, who had known him as Merwan, Merwanji, and Merwan Seth, decided to call him Meher Baba. They felt it was more appropriate, as “Baba” signified a venerable spiritual teacher, and “Meher” meant compassion, love, and mercy in multiple languages. The name Meher Baba was unanimously chosen to reflect his compassionate nature.
