1. The Backettes and Dr. Donkin
-
Mani shared a story about Will and Mary Backett, early English Baba lovers, and their correspondence with Baba. Will described Baba’s visit to their cottage in England, where Baba’s presence brought joy and spiritual upliftment to all. The visit also led to the introduction of William Donkin to Baba, who was profoundly impacted by Baba’s divine presence.

Mani S. Irani
-
Meher Baba, aware of the unique qualities and contributions of each mandali member, would sometimes use humor to highlight their strengths. He praised Donkin, who represented the West in the New Life, for his unwavering dedication despite physical challenges like hunger. Baba would often give Donkin food, like oranges, during their arduous journeys, demonstrating His care and understanding.
-
Mani recounts a story about Ralph Jackson’s journey to Meherazad, where he was driven by a Sikh driver who constantly remembered Baba, even taking his hands off the wheel. This reminds Mani of a story about Saint Peter at the pearly gates, where a drunken taxi driver was favored over a minister because he instilled fear of God in people. Mani concludes by sharing a humorous anecdote about a toy taxi that narrowly avoided a chair, eliciting laughter from the pilgrims.
-
Mani recounts a memory of Mehera, highlighting her thoughtfulness and clarity of heart. Mani misses the small gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness that Mehera showed, such as leaving gifts and remembering preferences.
