Mani S. Irani reflects on the constant presence of Baba in the lives of the resident mandali, describing it as a fulfilling experience. Despite the desire for occasional breaks, Mani found solace in hospital stays, which were rare occurrences. A memorable hospital experience in Hyderabad, marked by Baba’s thoughtful welcome and shared enjoyment of radio programs, stands out as a cherished memory.

Mani recounts a story about Baba’s orders, emphasizing the importance of obedience, even when the orders seem difficult or contradictory. Mani’s first order from Baba was to follow a doctor’s instructions, which included eating boiled spinach and avoiding dal, a staple in Mani’s diet. After two years, Baba overruled the doctor’s orders, allowing Mani to enjoy dal and rice again, highlighting Baba’s ultimate authority and the transformative power of His guidance.
-
During a 1952 flight to the United States, Baba allowed his disciples to enjoy the luxuries of first class, including a variety of international cuisines and drinks. Mani, one of the disciples, eagerly tried new foods and drinks, including champagne and a martini, while her companion Meheru struggled with airsickness. The experience was a treat for the disciples, who were accustomed to self-denial and discipline under Baba’s guidance.
