Meher Baba, known as the Avatar, left on the New Life on October 16, 1949, and did not return until a few years later. During this time, he stepped back into the Old Life for one day to fulfill promises made to his devotees, including arranging a marriage for a young man whose mother had been pestering Baba about it. Despite skepticism from some, including a revolutionary leader who threatened to shoot Baba if proven a hoax, Baba’s radiant presence and divine aura eventually won over even the most doubtful. Meher Baba, in New Life, held a private meeting in a stable, instructing everyone not to bow to Him. When some people disobeyed and bowed, Baba demonstrated obedience by asking for a slap, eventually praising Minoo for his firm slap. This act of obedience deeply impacted a stranger, Pukar, who surrendered to Baba, believing Him to be a great commander and God in human form.

Eruch recounts a story about Rabia, who, after receiving a henna design from her servant, chastises Hassan for complimenting her appearance instead of focusing on their spiritual connection. This anecdote illustrates Baba’s preference for seeing beyond physical appearances and valuing the divine within each person. Eruch emphasizes the importance of focusing on the God within, rather than personal relationships or physical attributes.
